Hey there!
First off I want to thank Hannah Amuka for allowing my piece “Wallow” into the Kennesaw State’s SOAAD Alumni Biennial 2021 Exhibition!
The piece that was accepted has never been shown publicly before (yes, this statement applies to my instagram as well). It is called “Wallow”, and is a sculpture. This piece, like many of my artworks, is very personal to me as it reflects upon myself and my experience. It was created in 2019 and it was one of the first pieces I finished after graduating college in the summer of 2018.
”Wallow” is a figure slumping over, surrounded and covered in growth. Those of you who have watched my work may remember I love dandelions. How many did we pluck to make wishes upon as kids? Dandelions surround her as she looks defeated and supporting herself on one arm. Surrounded by wishes to be blown into existence, surrounded by plants growing and thriving in her sadness. When we wallow in our sadness and mental troubles we wish for so much, but rarely do we take the effort to make them come true. Sometimes we get to the point where we don’t even have the desire to pluck the dandelion and wish.
”Wallow” is about reminding myself to keep wishing. Keep trying. Keep moving. It’s about never surrendering to stillness and letting life live and die all around me, but to be a part of life in more ways than death in any state of being.
I hope you all will consider seeing my work, “Wallow” at Kennesaw State University’s SOAAD Alumni Biennial 2021 Exhibition.
Opening Reception will be July 21. 2021 from 5 pm - 8:30 pm.
